In ship propulsion technology, it is very important to operate the ship's main engine as long as possible at the most effective operating point. This is especially true for applications with different propulsion modes. The main challenges include achieving the lowest possible operational and lifecycle costs, reducing environmental impact and noise emissions, and ensuring reliability and safety. Flender can provide third-generation dual speed gearboxes for ships with two operating modes
Need for alternative propulsion systems (redundant systems, emergency systems),
Hybrid propulsion (parallel drive of diesel engine and electric motor),
Simultaneously generate electricity during diesel engine propulsion
We need to combine these three requirements.
So far, 35 dual speed gearboxes covering a power range of 1800 to 10500 kW have been installed and operated, with eccentricities ranging from 710 to 1250 mm
